Chenin Blanc

France>Loire Valley>Vouvray

From the Winemaker:  The wine gives a sweet sensation with a dry finish on the palate. A concentration of rich flavors develop fruity aromas such as fresh grapes and ripe quinces with slight honey notes. Vouvray wines can be kept for many years.

The Vouvray vineyards are situated upstream from Tours in the North of the Loire valley. Vines are planted on clay limestone and clay siliceous grounds on the chalky “Tuffeau” soil. The vines roots overhang the cellars built in the rock nearby the houses called “Troglodytes”.

The ripe grapes are handpicked during October. Some of the grapes have noble rot also known as botrytis which concentrates the sugar in the grapes. The wines ferment very slowly over a month.

France>Languedoc Roussillon > Roussillon > Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes

Eyes:  Pale Yellow
Nose:  Fresh, Fruity
Mouth:  crisp, food-friendly, mineral, moderate oak, personality-filled, supple, vanilla

Ratings:  90 pts Wine Advocate
Why we like it:  Pretty pretty pretty! A very sophisticated Chardonnay at this price.

Pairs with:  Lobster Bread Pudding, Seafood Sausage, Nut-Encrusted Filet, Layered Roasted Vegetables, Caesar Salad

From the Winemaker:  Novellum is 100% Chardonnay from vines that are at least 30 years old in the Côtes Catalanes region of the Languedoc-Roussillon in southern France. This 2015 is positively bursting with fresh fruit character, bringing aromas of ripe honeydew melon, sweet orange, and warm honey. With a third of the wine aged in French oak for three months, you get just enough of a vanilla edge to cut through the fruit without an excess of wood. The depth and texture here is that of a wine well beyond Novellum's extremely friendly price!

Stringent monitoring of the vines—from the first buds through to the mature fruits ready for harvesting—is a common concern that characterises our wine growers’ approach to their work. Monitoring, inspecting and employing the best cultivation practices are prerequisites for the quality of Lucien Albrecht wines. Each intervention is meticulously recorded and monitored with a view to adapting the vine maintenance operations and applying any treatments sparingly, ensuring that the earth can sustainably continue to give the best it has to offer.

Opting for authentic harvesting by hand
To safeguard all of the efforts made in the vineyards and maintain the quality potential of the grape harvest, the Maison Lucien Albrecht continues to innovate and now favours the use of small containers in order to maintain the integrity of the fruit which arrives at our wine presses undamaged. Consequently, the grape harvest is carried out mainly by hand, with entire bunches of grapes being pressed slowly in pneumatic wine presses. This is followed by natural clarification through sedimentation. Maturing in casks, barrels or tanks, depending on the grape varieties, guarantees the character, finesse and balance of our wines.
